“Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s acquisition of a 25 per cent stake in Manchester United Football Club and a further investment of US$300 million (£237 million) in the club has been approved by the Premier League Board. After completing the process of testing owners and directors,” a Premier League statement said.

“The board agreed to changes to the club’s ownership structure last week. And now it has been officially certified by an independent regulatory board. All the rules from the Premier League have been signed as well.”

Ratcliffe has been reaching an agreement with Manchester United to buy shares of the club some time ago. But everything is still not officially finished. Until recently, he received official approval from an independent regulatory committee.

Premier League approval brings Ratcliffe’s partial takeover unofficially to completion. After negotiations over the sale of club shares have been dragging on since November 2022.
